and singing birds will come . . . " I replaced "heart" with "city" in the ancient Chinese proverb. It reminded me of one of many reasons I enjoy living in Lethbridge AB. There are an amazing variety and quantity of birds here. But, in the early part of the twentieth century the city's pioneers did not have it so good. It was a treeless, dusty, unattractive place. Today many of the streets are tree-lined with mature, leafy trees as are the well-maintained city parks - of which every neighbourhood seems to have at least one. These greenspaces bring the birds. Lethbridge is on the north-south migratory routes, so, it is a very special place for birders. It is not only special for the birds and their fans but, all the city's inhabitants benefit. Go for a walk in a lethbridge Area park on any day of the year. You will see smiling faces on families playing together, on bikers/joggers/walkers, and best of all you will be cheered by the beauty of bird song.
