Historic Manotick 150 years old this year! A living example of a rural village just 20 minutes from Canada's Capital. While threatened by developers (Minto) who want to more than double the size of the village the villagers stand firm together in trying to preserve this dleightful village of 1750 homes. It rests on the Rideau River, and Watson's Mill still grinds flour after 150 years! Peace and quiet prevail, if only we can keep developers at bay. The City of Ottawa and the Rural Affairs Committee have declined planning permission, but have been over-ruled by the OMB (Ontario Municipal Board) who with their one voice have drowned out the voices of nearly 3000 local residents. The City are launching an appeal against the ruling, who else can help prevent such a peaceful village avoid being swamped by a 2,000 house urban developer? We love our little village and would be sad to see it turned into just another mass building site. Surely trees, little shops and stores and restaurants have a place in Canada.
