I have fond memories of growing up in Fort Saskatchewan. The city was small enough that I lived a short walk or bus ride from school, and was just as close to any of my friends’ houses. Rest assured you would run into someone you knew getting an ice cream at Millers, watching the fire works on July 01, going to a movie, or picking up a pizza at BPs. The city was big enough that we had all the feature of a larger city, without the line ups! The Fort had a local movie theatre, pools, a variety of sports teams, an outdoor ice rink, a Farmer’s market, festivals, and over 75 hectares of land for biking, running or walking. While I moved away after high school, when it came to the time to raise my own family, I couldn’t think of a better place than Fort Saskatchewan. I moved back here almost 6 years ago, and my husband and I are happily raising our three children here. Over the past decade, the Fort has grown tremendously: we have new housing developments, a state of the art community centre (Dow Centennial Centre), new restaurants, a Starbucks and new stores such as Wal- Mart and Reitman’s. Events are year round, with options including outdoor movies, concerts, the ballet or a play. You can still catch the latest movie in a new theatre, play a round of golf, or get pizza at a number of places in the city. The Fort also offers unique family fun. A family favourite is the Sheep Grazing Program. In the summer months, about 40 sheep keep our city grass trimmed. The kids love to watch the sheep dogs in action!
